FAA certifies 737 MAX 7, MAX‑7, US deliveries set slated for 2027
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration issued an amended type certificate for Boeing’s 737 MAX 7 on 3 August 2026, clearing the aircraft for commercial service. The approval concludes a certification effort that began in 2018 and involved service after more than 1,000 hours of combined flight and ground testing, safety analyses and human‑factors reviews. Required design changes include updated flight‑control software, a revised crew‑alerting system and a redesigned engine anti‑ice system. Southwest Airlines is confirmed as the launch customer, with the first deliveries expected in 2027. Boeing has completed about 30 MAX 7 jets and nine MAX 10 jets that are awaiting delivery, while roughly 280 orders for the MAX 7 remain pending. The MAX 7 seats 135‑160 passengers in a two‑class layout, offers a range of up to 3,800 nautical miles, and is marketed as using roughly 20 % less fuel, emitting 20 % less CO₂ and generating about 50 % less noise than the aircraft it replaces. Two days later, the FAA’s certification was described as the final regulatory step before the aircraft can enter service. Boeing said its first U.S. customers are Southwest Airlines (258 aircraft) and Allegiant Air (24 aircraft). The model will also be offered as a basis for the Boeing Business Jet. Additional approvals from authorities such as EASA are still required for global service, and the MAX 7 will compete with Airbus’s A319neo and A220‑300 families. The certification news lifted Boeing’s stock by about five percent and prompted analyst upgrades, reinforcing confidence in the program’s recovery.
