Overview

On September 8, 2026, a drive-by shooting occurred near Fairview, Alberta, during a dispute. The victim was shot in the head, though RCMP officials reported the injuries were minor because the weapon used was a pellet pistol.

Following an investigation, police located the suspect vehicle at a residence and obtained a search warrant. Two individuals, Vanessa Michelle Basnett, 28, and Jaylee Brenda Rain Lizotte, 25, were taken into custody and charged with assault with a weapon. Both suspects have been released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on September 23, 2026.
