On August 3, a man died after slipping into the Gold Creek Lower Falls area of Golden Ears Provincial Park while attempting to photograph a waterfall. Despite rescue efforts by Maple Ridge Fire Rescue and paramedics, the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition and subsequently passed away. Following the incident, BC Parks identified graffiti sprayed on boulders near Gold Creek as a “misguided tribute” to the deceased. Officials condemned the act as vandalism that harms the natural environment.
