Fatal electric scooter accidents involving teenagers

Overview

Separate incidents involving teenagers and electric scooters have resulted in fatalities in Portugal and Spain.

In Lousada, Portugal, a 15-year-old boy died following a scooter accident in the parish of Boim. Emergency responders transported the teenager to Hospital Padre Américo in Penafiel, where he was pronounced dead despite resuscitation efforts. Local authorities are investigating the circumstances of the fall.

In Salamanca, Spain, a 15-year-old football player named Héctor died after an accident in the Pizarrales neighborhood. The incident occurred on Victoria Street when Héctor and another adolescent were riding the same electric scooter and fell; emergency services reported that one of the youths was unconscious at the scene. After being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital de Salamanca for eight days, the teenager passed away.

His football club, Club Deportivo Munibar Pizarrales, released a statement expressing “profound grief,” noting that Héctor had played for the club for three seasons and was highly regarded by teammates and coaches. As a tribute, all teams within the club will observe a minute of silence this weekend.
