Fatal hornet attack in Košice

Overview

In Košice, a 70-year-old man died at a public cemetery after being attacked by hornets while cleaning a grave. The insects had established a nest beneath a tombstone and attacked the man in the face and head.

Physician Otto Mižík reported that the man suffered “massive anaphylactic shock.” Despite resuscitation efforts by emergency responders and firefighters lasting over 45 minutes, the man could not be saved. Firefighters subsequently removed the nest and sealed the cracks in the grave to prevent further incidents.
