Fatal road accidents and violent incidents in PT, BR, and AO
Overview
Reports continue to document a series of fatal road accidents and violent incidents across Portugal, Brazil, and Angola.
In Portugal, a head-on collision on the EN246 in Portalegre killed a 50-year-old man and left three others injured, including a 45-year-old man who required helicopter transport to the Hospital de Évora. The GNR is investigating the crash. Other recent incidents include a collision between a car and a motorcycle in Cascais that left a 22-year-old with a head injury, and an explosion in Montijo that killed a child and seriously injured a mother.
In Angola, a significant accident in Huíla province resulted in 14 deaths and six injuries after a taxi collided with a bridge and caught fire, reportedly due to speeding.
Brazil has seen various fatal collisions and criminal activities. In São Paulo, the Civil Police are investigating a series of homicides involving bodies found in plastic bags. While social media speculation has suggested the presence of a serial killer, authorities state that the cases currently show “distinct dynamics and locations” and no direct link has been confirmed. Other recent reports include a fatal two-car collision in Campos dos Goytacazes, a truck collision near Serra dos Parecis, a hostage situation in Cotia, and a drug arrest in Resende involving 20kg of hashish. Law enforcement has also responded to fatal confrontations in Aparecida de Goiânia, Ibirataia, and São José dos Pinhais, as well as a shooting on a bus in Maceió that resulted in one death and two injuries.
