Fatal youth brawl in Trani

An 18-year-old man, Cosimo Quagliarella, died following a stabbing during a brawl between youths from Trani and Andria in Puglia. The incident took place in the early hours of August 13 in a pine grove area known as the ‘pinetina’.

While the suspect confessed to the stabbing, authorities indicated the claim of self-defense was contradicted by evidence, leading the Bari Juvenile Court to validate the arrest.

Judge Giuseppe Iacobellis described the suspect’s conduct as characterized by “extreme recklessness.” While the teenager faces charges of voluntary homicide and rioting, the judge has not yet recognized aggravating factors such as premeditation or futile motives. Local tension remains high in both Trani and Andria, with residents fearing potential retaliatory violence following the tragedy.
