However, subsequent investigations and an autopsy revealed that Quagliarella was struck three times in the back with a folding knife, with a wound to the lung and heart area proving fatal. Prosecutors have since upgraded the charges to premeditated voluntary homicide aggravated by futile motives, alleging the conflict stemmed from a romantic dispute. While the suspect confessed to the stabbing, authorities indicated the claim of self-defense was contradicted by evidence, leading the Bari Juvenile Court to validate the arrest. Judge Giuseppe Iacobellis described the suspect’s conduct as characterized by “extreme recklessness.” While the teenager faces charges of voluntary homicide and rioting, the judge has not yet recognized aggravating factors such as premeditation or futile motives. Local tension remains high in both Trani and Andria, with residents fearing potential retaliatory violence following the tragedy.
