FC Metz managerial transition

Overview

FC Metz underwent a managerial change in Ligue 2 following the departure of head coach Luc Holtz. Holtz, who was appointed in June, left by mutual agreement after seven matches because the team's performance was deemed insufficient to meet the club's goal of immediate promotion to Ligue 1.

Grégory Proment, a former club captain, was brought in to replace Holtz and his assistant, Mario Mutsch. This transition marked the club's fourth coaching change within the calendar year. As the team prepared for its first match under Proment against DFCO, midfielder Jessy Deminguet acknowledged the players' role in recent results, stating, ‘We are also at fault because we were also on the field.’

Proment’s debut as manager resulted in a 4-2 defeat against Dijon FCO at the Stade Gaston-Gérard. While Pape Moussa Fall scored twice for Metz, including a goal in the 89th minute, the team suffered from defensive vulnerabilities. Goals from Hugo Vargas-Rios, Ange Lago, Julio Tavares, and Quentin Bernard secured the win for Dijon, highlighting the ongoing organizational and defensive struggles Metz faces while attempting to rebuild under new leadership.
