Federal investigation and detentions in Energética Carvel

Overview

Federal authorities in Chihuahua, including the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR), the National Guard, and the Mexican Army, launched a series of operations targeting the Energética Carvel gas station group. These interventions involved simultaneous searches of corporate offices, residential properties, and a gas station in Cuauhtémoc. While official motives were not fully disclosed, reports suggested the investigations were linked to suspected fuel theft, or ‘huachicol’.

Following these raids, the status of the service stations has become varied. Several locations, including those at Fuerza Aérea, Palestina, Rosales, and Pacheco, have been sealed by authorities with notices stating ‘Asegurado, carpeta de investigación’ (Seized, investigation file). The National Guard remains stationed at the operational offices. However, other stations, such as those at Nogales and Industrias, continue to operate normally. In some sealed locations, the attached convenience stores remain open to the public.

The investigation, conducted by the FGR through the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), has led to the detention of key figures associated with the company. On September 24, Carlos Alberto V. N., the owner of Carvel, was detained and subsequently moved to judicial court holding cells at the Aquiles Serdán Cereso. Additionally, Anil Yazmil D. B., a business partner of Carlos Alberto and president of the Carvel Foundation, was arrested on September 24 and interned at the female Cereso prison in Chihuahua on September 25. Specific charges against her have not been made public.
