FeSiMuBo municipal union protests in Buenos Aires
Overview
The Federation of Municipal Unions of Buenos Aires (FeSiMuBo) has initiated a series of protests and road blockades across the Buenos Aires province to demand “dignified salaries” and an end to labor precariousness.
In September, the union’s Southern Regional blocked access to the Port of Bahía Blanca via Route 51. The movement also sought improvements to municipal retiree benefits and the establishment of a transparent Municipal Employment Council.
By October, the scope of the protests expanded to include municipal unions from nine northern suburbs, including San Isidro, Tigre, and San Martín. These groups conducted blockades at the intersection of Panamericana and Route 197. In addition to wage increases, protesters raised concerns regarding the financing of the IOMA and IPS institutes. Union leaders have characterized the movement as a “total, permanent, and prolonged” struggle, stating they will continue measures of force until the provincial government and the Ministry of Labor respond.
