The 37th Kinoforum – International Short Film Festival concluded in late August 2026, celebrating a diverse program of 260 short ~~films.~~ films from over 50 countries. Following the death of founder Zita Carvalhosa, the festival introduced the Zita Carvalhosa Prize to support debuting Brazilian filmmakers; Diego Benevides won the inaugural award for ‘Imagem Imaginada’. Other notable winners included ‘Diálogo Bulbul’, which received the ‘Prêmio Revelação’, and ‘Diu’ by Camila Schincaglia, which earned the Abraccine Prize. The animation ‘O Jardim’ was awarded the Kaiser Trophy, while TV Cultura recognized ‘Theo’ with an Acquisition Prize and gave an Honorable Mention to ‘Entre Mães’. Parallel to these festival results, the Brazilian film industry has begun preparations for the 2027 Oscars. The Academia Brasileira de Cinema has identified 15 eligible films for the Best International Feature category, ~~such as~~ including ‘Cinco Tipos de Medo’ directed by Bruno ~~Bini.~~ Bini and the political thriller ‘A Conspiração Condor’. A shortlist of six titles is expected on September 9, with the official Brazilian representative scheduled to be announced on September 16. Other regional developments include the Festival do Rio, which has selected 101 Brazilian productions for its Première Brasil showcase, and the São Paulo International Film Festival, which is preparing for its 50th anniversary with an opening screening of James Gray’s ‘Paper Tiger’.
