Financial performance of European crypto-exposed firms
Overview
During the first half of 2026, European companies with significant cryptocurrency exposure reported financial challenges.
Bitcoin Group SE reported a revenue decline to €1.59 million, down from €3.78 million in the previous year. The company noted that trading on its marketplace, bitcoin.de, has been suspended since late June 2026 due to delays in obtaining a crypto-asset service provider license under the European Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCAR) regulation. CEO Moritz Eckert stated that while technological infrastructure is complete, the company is awaiting regulatory approval.
Separately, Paris-listed Capital B reported a net loss of €69.5 million for the first half of 2026, a sharp increase from a €1.9 million loss in the same period in 2025. This loss was largely driven by a €67.5 million impairment charge related to the company’s Bitcoin holdings. Despite the loss, Capital B saw a 3.5% revenue increase in its data intelligence, AI, and tech consulting segments and increased its strategic Bitcoin reserve to 3,538 BTC as of September 30, 2026.
