Finnish mushroom harvest abundance
Overview
Finland is experiencing an exceptionally abundant and diverse mushroom harvest, which experts describe as the most plentiful in approximately thirty years. Traditional edible mushrooms are widely available across the country, particularly in the Central and South Ostrobothnia regions.
Research professor Panu Halme from Syke reported that the harvest in southern Finland remained steady from July through early October. The season has been extended at both ends, with late-season varieties such as chanterelles, boletes, and saffron milk caps appearing later than usual in September and October.
While the summer harvest was noted for being of lower quality and affected by larvae, the later autumn harvest has been cleaner and of higher quality. The season is expected to continue until the arrival of heavy nighttime frosts.
