Finnish tax refund and arrears disparities
Overview
The Finnish Tax Administration reported significant regional disparities regarding tax refunds and arrears. Residents of Åland recorded the highest averages in both categories, with average tax arrears reaching 2,253 euros, compared to 1,393 euros in Uusimaa.
Chief Inspector Irene Laine attributed these trends in Åland to high levels of entrepreneurship, foreign income, and capital income, such as dividends.
Nationwide, the administration scheduled the issuance of 829 million euros in tax refunds to 939,000 customers. While the national average refund was 653 euros, Åland saw the highest average at 699 euros, followed by Uusimaa at 695 euros.
