Fire service infrastructure updates in northern Poland

Overview

In August 2026, regional fire service capabilities in northern Poland saw significant infrastructure and equipment updates.

Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport acquired a new Rosenbauer Panther aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle for nearly 5 million PLN. The 39-tonne vehicle, which replaces an aging 1996 Barracuda unit, enables the airport to reach ICAO Category 7 fire-protection levels. Airport President Tomasz Kloskowski stated the acquisition is a “significant step forward for passenger and crew safety.”

Concurrently, Gdynia initiated a 4.55 million PLN investment to construct a new warehouse and maneuver yard at the Rescue and Firefighting Unit No. 4 in Wielki Kack. Part of the 2025-2026 Population Protection and Civil Defense Program, the project is designed to enhance the logistical capabilities of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service for responding to natural disasters, fires, and infrastructure failures. Construction is expected to conclude by late November 2026.
