Fires in Aigaleo, Greece

Overview

A series of fires occurred in the Aigaleo municipality of Greece during late 2026.

On September 21, a fire broke out at a catering establishment on Agias Lavras Street. Firefighting services deployed between 15 and 18 firefighters and five vehicles to the scene. No information was available regarding trapped individuals or the cause of the blaze.

On October 10, a major fire struck a textile dyeing factory and adjacent workshop on Agiou Panteleimona Street in the Elaionas area. The blaze began in the early hours of the morning and spread rapidly due to a high volume of flammable materials, including fabrics and suspected gas cylinders, causing extensive structural damage and partial roof collapses. Witnesses reported hearing “loud explosions,” described as “bangs” and the sound of breaking bottles, which residents attributed to the bursting of gas cylinders or bottles within the facility.

Firefighting forces, including up to 35 firefighters and 11 vehicles equipped with a crane, worked through the night to contain the flames. To prevent the fire from reaching nearby residential areas and businesses, authorities coordinated the evacuation of all residents within a 400-meter radius, assisted by the Hellenic Police, and suspended traffic on Agiou Panteleimona Street. Thick smoke from the incident drifted toward Piraeus. The Athens Arson Crimes Investigation Unit has been deployed to determine the exact cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
