Flash flooding in Thailand
Overview
Heavy rainfall and monsoon conditions have triggered flash floods across multiple regions in Thailand, leading to rescues and infrastructure disruptions.
In late August, flooding in the Saraburi province affected the Kaeng Khoi and Muak Lek districts. Incidents included a vehicle being swept into a canal in the Ban Mak community and tourists being stranded at a resort in the Cha-om subdistrict. Local officials and residents conducted rescues, while disaster mitigation offices advised vigilance against landslides and rising waters.
In mid-September, heavy rains caused the Sok Canal to overflow in the Khao Sok area of Surat Thani. Emergency responders used inflatable boats to evacuate Thai and foreign tourists from inundated residential areas and riverside resorts. The flooding also rendered a section of Highway 401 impassable for small vehicles, though the road was later reopened to traffic.
