Flood response and civil defense exercises in Poland

Overview

In late September 2026, Polish emergency services and military units conducted large-scale flood response exercises along the Vistula River. Titled ‘Fala 2026’ and ‘Wielka Woda 2026’, these maneuvers involved approximately 350 participants, including the State Fire Service, police, medical rescue teams, and soldiers from the 2nd Territorial Defence Brigade and 4th Dęblin Sapper Regiment. Activities focused on reinforcing embankments and constructing mobile barriers to simulate responses to heavy rainfall.

Following these maneuvers, civil defense exercises titled ‘ZAPORA 2026’ were scheduled for early October in Kłodzko County. These drills, which included the use of emergency sirens, aimed to test cooperation between the County Crisis Management Center and local governments. The simulation scenarios for these exercises focused on intense rainfall affecting the Nysa Kłodzka and Wilczka regions, as well as potential incidents at the Międzygórze dam.
