Flooding in the Valencian Community

Authorities in the Valencian Community are coordinating emergency responses to manage severe weather and significant flooding. Rainfall accumulations in some areas reached between 650 and 700 liters per square meter, placing heavy strain on urban drainage systems.

President of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, visited Oliva to assess the impact, noting that while most rescues have been completed, the affected population still faces significant needs. Officials have indicated that once the immediate emergency phase concludes, efforts will shift to a second phase focused on addressing material damages caused by the storm.

In response to the devastation caused by the Dana Adam floods, President Pérez Llorca announced that the Valencian government will approve an emergency aid package for affected municipalities and will request a formal disaster zone declaration from the Spanish central government. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited Oliva to meet with local mayors and emergency responders, confirming that the Council of Ministers will approve a declaration of the area as a seriously affected zone.

In a leadership transition, Roger Llanes has been appointed as the new Government Delegate in the Comunitat Valenciana, succeeding Pilar Bernabé. Bernabé is stepping down to lead the PSOE list for the province of Valencia in the upcoming general elections on November 29. Llanes, an agricultural engineer with over 30 years of experience in rural infrastructure, most recently directed the Coordination and Impulse Office for the execution of flood aid. His technical background is expected to be vital for reconstruction efforts in the Safor and Marina Alta regions.
