In Florida, prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against two adults, Tamra Marshon Stewart and Keysha Monique Epps, following allegations of severe child abuse. Investigators report that four children were kept in a truck, described as a ‘rolling prison’, for over six years between 2020 and 2026, during which time they were allegedly denied food, medical care, and schooling.

Stewart faces charges including sexual battery and child neglect, while Epps is accused of failing to report the abuse. This case coincides with new Florida legislation signed by Governor Ron DeSantis that allows prosecutors to seek capital punishment in cases involving the sexual battery of children under 12, even if the victim does not die. The law was designed to challenge the 2008 Supreme Court precedent in ‘Kennedy v. Louisiana’, which prohibited the death penalty for non-homicide child rape.
