Food fraud investigations in Indonesia

Overview

Indonesian authorities have launched investigations into several instances of food labeling fraud involving fortified rice. Initially, the National Police investigated PT DTA for allegedly selling fortified rice with nutritional content that did not match its packaging claims. This operation resulted in the seizure of over 6,000 kilograms of rice and a rice milling machine in East Jakarta.

Subsequent investigations expanded to North Sumatra, where the National Food Agency and police uncovered similar consumer protection violations. In Deli Serdang, authorities identified four brands produced by PT UDS that allegedly contained nutritional levels inconsistent with their labels. This second operation led to the seizure of more than 15 tons of rice.
