Food poisoning incidents in Indonesian schools

Overview

Multiple incidents of suspected mass food poisoning involving students have been reported in Indonesia following the consumption of meals related to the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.

In Indramayu, West Java, 143 students at SMAN 1 Tukdana reported symptoms including dizziness, nausea, and vomiting after eating flour-coated chicken provided by SPPG Kerticala II. While most students have been discharged, some remain under outpatient monitoring. The meal provider has committed to covering medical expenses for those without insurance, and authorities have collected samples for laboratory testing.

In North Toraja, approximately 74 students and staff members at SMAN 3 Toraja Utara experienced stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. While some reports suggest the illness may be linked to the MBG menu provided by the Palawa Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit, the school principal noted that symptoms appeared before the scheduled meal delivery. Food samples have been sent to the Makassar Food and Drug Monitoring Center for investigation.
