Authorities in Turkey have conducted several food safety inspections resulting in the seizure of expired and improperly labeled goods. In Gaziosmanpaşa, municipal police and the District Agriculture Directorate seized approximately 10 tons of spoiled and expired products, including molasses, cheese, margarine, and spices. Officials reportedly used drones to conduct inspections after businesses refused to open their doors. An investigation by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is underway. In the Kepez district of Antalya, a warehouse inspection in the Yükseliş neighborhood led to the seizure of 152 kilograms of meat products that were expired or lacked expiration dates. The operation, involving the Kepez Municipality Municipal Police, the Cleaning Affairs Directorate, the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Kepez District Police Department, followed routine checks and citizen reports. Inspectors also confiscated 20 barrels of pickles that were found in containers falsely labeled as ‘brined grape leaves’. The seized items were destroyed due to public health risks. The business was sealed and the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry imposed an administrative fine of 26,360 TL. In the Sultangazi district of Istanbul, municipal police sealed a market following reports of food label tampering. The issue was identified by a consumer who discovered an expired date on a package of sucuk after peeling back a top label. Following the release of video footage on social media, an inspection revealed multiple products with altered labels used to mask expired dates.
