Authorities in Turkey have conducted several food safety inspections resulting in the seizure of expired and improperly labeled goods. In Gaziosmanpaşa, municipal police and the District Agriculture Directorate seized approximately 10 tons of spoiled and expired products, including molasses, cheese, margarine, and spices. Officials reportedly used drones to conduct inspections after businesses refused to open their doors. An investigation by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is underway. In the Kepez district of Antalya, a warehouse inspection led to the seizure of 152 kilograms of meat products that were expired or lacked expiration dates. Inspectors also confiscated 20 barrels of pickles falsely labeled as ‘brined grape leaves’. In the Sultangazi district of Istanbul, municipal police sealed a market following reports of food label tampering. Recent audits in the Haliliye district of Şanlıurfa saw officials seize 315 kilograms of unhealthy meat from a butcher shop, consisting of 163 kilograms of expired chicken and 152 kilograms of spoiled red meat; the business was fined 105,600 TL. During the same period, 825 expired products were confiscated from school canteens and 155 products from markets near schools. In Altındağ, municipal police audits of school canteens identified expired packaged goods and an expired fire extinguisher, resulting in penalties for operators. In Malatya, inspections at a local products fair led to the seizure of 230 kilograms of heat-treated chicken sausage being falsely sold as ‘beef sausage’ and 150 kilograms of processed cheese. Officials also confiscated 600 liters of mixed oil sold as olive oil, 285 kilograms of unlabeled tomato paste, and 86 liters of suspicious sauces labeled as pomegranate molasses, cranberry extract, and blueberry extract. The Malatya Governor's Office stated these measures were taken under Law No. 5996 to protect public health.
