Following the violent unrest during the DFB-Pokal match between SV Waldhof Mannheim and 1. FC Kaiserslautern at the Carl-Benz-Stadion, authorities have moved toward both legal prosecution and systemic security reform. The operational costs for the police response to the initial incident are estimated by the police union to be approximately one million euros. The unrest had previously resulted in injuries to 35 police officers and 85 spectators, with eight individuals requiring hospital treatment.
