Ford Ranger Super Duty Fire Response Unit development

Ford Australia, in collaboration with Deakin University and XL Service Bodies, has introduced the Ranger Super Duty Fire Response Unit. Initially unveiled as a prototype at the AFAC conference in Melbourne, the vehicle is designed as an early-intervention platform for emergency services, particularly for urban-interface areas where residential zones meet bushland.

The vehicle features a Super Cab layout to balance equipment load space with protected cabin storage for first aid and communication systems. Technical specifications include a high-flow pump and an ultra-high-pressure pump. To support operations, the unit utilizes solar-capable battery-powered auxiliary systems, which removes the need for petrol or diesel generators.

Following the prototype unveiling, further details confirmed the vehicle is built on a reinforced chassis with a 4500kg gross vehicle mass and a payload capacity of up to 1885kg. The unit is priced from $86,490 before on-road costs and is part of a broader development context including the Ford Pro Converter program in Australia and New Zealand.
