France Nuit des étoiles astronomy festivals

In late July 2026, French towns began hosting free public stargazing nights as part of the national Nuit des étoiles series. The youth council of Val‑Couesnon held its first event on 25 July, drawing about 200 participants for solar, lunar and early‑night observations, along with workshops and performances. A week later, on 7 August, the Cité de l’espace in Toulouse opened its grounds for a larger Nuit des étoiles night featuring telescope viewing, hands‑on workshops, cultural shows and a Star Wars‑themed laser‑saber display.

By early August, organizers announced additional festivals scheduled for 7‑8 August in Argelliers and Besançon. Both events will offer free telescope sessions, astrophotography workshops, talks and family‑friendly activities, continuing the nationwide effort to make astronomy accessible to the public across multiple French regions.
