France RSV prevention and reimbursement measures

In late August 2026, French health insurance (Assurance Maladie) increased the reimbursement rate for two Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) preventive treatments from 30% to 65%. This change followed a re-evaluation by the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS), which upgraded the medical benefit of Pfizer’s Abrysvo vaccine and the Sanofi/AstraZeneca injectable Beyfortus from ‘moderate’ to ‘important’ in preventing RSV-related bronchiolitis.

Following these adjustments, France launched a national prevention campaign against infant bronchiolitis scheduled to run from September 14, 2026, through February 2027. The medical arsenal for this season expanded to include a new monoclonal antibody, Enflonsia (clesrovimab), alongside Beyfortus and Synagis, which remains reserved for high-risk or premature infants. Abrysvo continues to be an option for pregnant women. In French overseas territories, the prevention schedule is staggered, beginning in the French Antilles in late August and continuing through various dates in La Réunion, Mayotte, and French Guiana.
