Fraud investigations involving IBAN and bank accounts in Tur

Overview

Turkish authorities have targeted various fraudulent activities involving the misuse of bank accounts and IBAN information.

In one investigation, authorities launched an operation against a group of lawyers accused of using an ‘IBAN scheme’ to generate illicit profits. These lawyers allegedly withheld their IBAN information from citizens ordered by courts to pay fines or fees, forcing parties into formal enforcement proceedings to collect both original legal fees and additional enforcement attorney fees. Several lawyers with account movements ranging from 20 to 24 billion lira have been taken into custody.

In a separate but related legal matter, a 30-year-old man, Nejat Yazıcı, faced 97 lawsuits after his bank accounts were used in a large-scale fraud scheme. Yazıcı claimed he provided his accounts to individuals via social media under the guise of e-commerce opportunities to settle personal debts. The scheme reportedly defrauded dozens of people within 17 days, leading to the freezing of his accounts and subsequent legal battles.
