Fraudulent overseas job recruitment scams
Overview
The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning to its citizens regarding fraudulent job offers in Zambia. This alert follows a joint security operation in Lusaka on August 23, 2026, which targeted an organized cybercrime facility. The operation led to the arrest of 79 individuals, including six Ghanaians.
Investigations indicated that victims were recruited through seemingly legitimate roles, such as online data entry positions. Once in Zambia, their passports were allegedly confiscated, and they were forced into participating in online scam activities. The Ministry warned that human trafficking syndicates are using these fake employment opportunities to lure job seekers into illegal activities.
