The Établissement français du sang (EFS) has initiated various blood collection efforts and mobilization campaigns to address supply needs. Initially, the EFS La Réunion-Océan Indien released a specific collection schedule for August 2026, detailing various sites and appointment procedures across locations such as Saint Denis, Saint Paul, and Saint Leu. Following reports of a critical drop in national reserves, the EFS extended its mobilization campaign. National stocks fell to 75,000 bags, which is below the safety threshold of 90,000 bags, attributed to heatwaves, public holidays, and summer vacations. To address these shortages and improve medical sovereignty, the organization is also pursuing the ‘Ambition Plasma’ strategy. This initiative aims to increase domestic plasma collection to 1,400,000 liters by 2028, reducing the current reliance on imports, which account for approximately 70% of plasma-derived medicinal products. As part of ongoing collection efforts, the EFS has announced new drives for the autumn. In the Vosges department, multiple sessions are scheduled throughout September 2026 across several communes, including Anould, Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, Épinal, Remiremont, and Vittel. Additionally, the 10th edition of the ‘Sang pour Sang Campus’ event is set to take place in Villeurbanne from October 6 to 8 at the Halle de tennis de la Doua. Organized in collaboration with the Lions Club International and Université Lyon 1, this initiative aims to collect 1,200 donations over three days. Further awareness and collection efforts are expanding across other regions. In the Deux-Sèvres department, six cyclists are participating in the ‘400 pour sang’ challenge from September 8 to September 11, 2026, cycling 400 km to encourage students at rural and agricultural schools to commit to future donations.
