Eady family all perish in Fresno plane crash

Overview

A single-engine Grumman American Aviation AA-5 crashed near the Sierra Sky Park Airport in northwest Fresno, California, on Saturday, September 5. The aircraft, piloted by flight instructor Danna Eady, 41, crashed and caught fire shortly after takeoff near the San Joaquin River.

While initial reports indicated two adults were in critical condition, it has since been confirmed that all four family members on board have died. The two children, Pavel, 10, and Remus, 13, were pronounced dead at the scene. Danna Eady died from her injuries, and her husband, Craig Eady, 44, passed away in the hospital on Monday from severe burns and trauma. The couple’s two eldest children, Felicity, 18, and Lucien, 17, were not on the aircraft.

Danna Eady was a prominent figure in the local aviation community, serving as a flight instructor at Reedley College and founder of Meraki Aviation. In honor of her legacy as a mentor and trailblazer, Reedley College has canceled flight operations.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the cause of the crash. Emergency responders previously managed to extinguish flames that spread to a nearby hillside, preventing the fire from reaching residential areas.
