Friuli Venezia Giulia demographic and healthcare trends
Overview
A statistical report from the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional office indicates that the resident population is aging faster than both Italian and European averages, accompanied by a declining birth rate. Despite these demographic shifts, the report notes that residents live longer and maintain higher rates of cultural engagement and environmental awareness compared to the national average.
In response to these trends, regional health assessor Riccardo Riccardi announced an expansion of medical services. Integrated home care for individuals over the age of 65 has more than doubled, increasing from 17,000 to over 35,000 people. Furthermore, outpatient services have grown to five million, and residential facility capacity for non-self-sufficient individuals has risen to 8,000 beds. To support these efforts, resources allocated to reducing residential fees have increased from 70 million to 110 million euros.
