Friuli Venezia Giulia regional funding and budget debates
Overview
The Friuli Venezia Giulia region has secured and deployed significant financial resources for regional support. In late September 2026, the region was slated to receive 68 million euros through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Effective October 1, 2026, the regional government utilized 2.6 million euros in additional funds to increase fuel subsidies to the legal maximum. These subsidies, intended to support local families and businesses through the end of the year, are distributed across three geographic zones. In Area 0, which includes Trieste, the subsidy reaches 39 cents per liter for gasoline and 30 cents for diesel, with a 5-cent bonus for hybrid vehicles. Area 1 and Area 2 receive lower tiered contributions for gasoline and diesel respectively.
By mid-October 2026, the regional council began debating an autumn budget adjustment valued at 79 million euros. Presented by Mauro Di Bert, the majority report describes the maneuver as a strategic tool to address economic uncertainties and rising energy costs. However, the opposition, led by the Partito Democratico (Pd), has raised concerns that total resources for 2026 may be declining compared to 2025. Councillor Andrea Carli noted that approximately 23 million euros—roughly 30% of the maneuver—remains unallocated. The Pd is advocating for structural interventions in healthcare, sustainable mobility, and fuel costs rather than simple resource distribution. Additionally, a 20,000 euro amendment was announced to support youth cultural projects, including the ‘Let’s GO! Cosplay & Fun 2026’ event in Gorizia.
