Gabon digital governance and infrastructure development

Gabon is expanding its digital infrastructure through both high-level policy development and sector-specific technological implementations.

Initially, the government focused on digital governance and telecommunications. The Minister of Digital Economy, Mark-Alexandre Doumba, engaged in international consultations regarding the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to discuss digital content regulation and satellite internet services. Concurrently, the Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization, and Innovation launched workshops in Libreville, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to create a national artificial intelligence (AI) strategy intended to integrate AI into public services while respecting cultural and ethical norms.

This digital push has extended into the healthcare sector. In collaboration with the Spanish technology group INDRA, the Gabonese Ministry of Health is implementing the ‘My Health’ solution. This initiative aims to centralize medical records, vaccinations, and prescriptions into a single digital environment to facilitate data portability and enable teleconsultations for remote populations.
