Galicia is implementing various strategies to prepare for the Xacobeo 2027 Holy Year, focusing on tourism growth and public-private cooperation. Regional authorities are working to expand the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector. During the Foro MICE Galicia in Vigo, Xosé Manuel Merelles, Director of Tourism for Galicia, announced an incentive plan to attract conventions to de-seasonalize tourism. To support this, the Convention Bureau Rías Baixas was presented to facilitate event organization. Public-private partnerships have become a cornerstone of the preparation. Grupo Lence, Galicia’s largest dairy company, signed a collaboration agreement with the Xunta de Galicia lasting until June 2028. This follows similar commitments from companies like Hijos de Rivera (Estrella Galicia) to promote the region’s gastronomy and heritage. Commissioner of Xacobeo 2027, Marcos Gómez Román, noted these partnerships are strategic for increasing the celebration's reach. In September 2026, President Alfonso Rueda presented a promotional campaign in Madrid under the slogan ‘Galicia Calidade, en el mejor momento’. While previous reports noted a 7% increase in pilgrimage numbers, Rueda highlighted growing popularity with new estimates suggesting up to 730,000 pilgrims may visit the region during the period. This campaign aims to position the upcoming Holy Year as a major international tourism event by leveraging Galicia’s spiritual, cultural, and natural heritage. As the Holy Year cycle approaches, the region is also integrating cultural events into its tourism strategy, such as the 9th edition of the Underfest Xacobeo music festival in Vigo, scheduled for November 2026.
