Gaza humanitarian aid and food security crisis

Overview

Humanitarian aid and food assistance to the Gaza Strip have faced significant declines. In September 2026, the Gaza Crossing and Borders Authority reported that aid shipments entering via the Kerem Shalom crossing dropped by 43% compared to August, with 1,244 aid trucks entering versus 2,182 the previous month. Total truck movement into the territory also decreased by 14.5%.

Following these logistical declines, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that food assistance is expected to decrease further in October due to funding shortages. While 25 organizations provided approximately 695,000 daily meals in late September, humanitarian partners cautioned that distributions of hot meals and monthly food packages will shrink. OCHA noted that current food packages often meet only about half of the minimum caloric requirements for families.
