The Gaza health ministry’s warning of a deepening medical crisis has intensified. By late July 2026, hospitals remain remained critically short of dialysis supplies, cancer drugs, radiology contrast agents and MRI equipment, while only a handful of the 20,000 patients requiring needing treatment outside Gaza have had received permits. Neonatal care has become became a flashpoint: premature births have risen rose sharply, with one in five infants needing requiring intensive or thermal support, yet facilities lack lacked incubators, ventilators and essential medicines. Four days later, the Ministry of Health disclosed record occupancy: 997,844 patients treated in occupancy—nearly one million emergency services, 826,060 patients, over 800 000 outpatient visits and 111,378 admissions. Teams performed 57,112 complex surgeries, 760 cardiac catheterisations and distributed 32,186 units of blood. Yet more than 111 000 admissions—while 26 of the 38 hospitals are were out of service, service and supplies of basic medicines are down more than 50 %, medicines, medical supplies 70 %, consumables and laboratory reagents over 87 fell by 50‑90 %, signalling a near‑total collapse of civilian health care amid the ongoing siege. On 1 August, the Palestinian Ministry of Health declared the sector to be in its most dangerous phase ever, linking the deterioration to intensified Israeli military actions in Gaza, escalating attacks in the West Bank, and a severe financial crisis caused by Israel’s seizure of Palestinian funds. Health Minister Majid Abu Ramadan appealed to the United Nations, WHO, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other humanitarian actors for safe corridors, regular delivery of medical aid and an end to violations against health facilities, emphasizing that protecting Gaza’s health system is a legal and moral duty of the international community.
