In 2025, the SCS treated 1,100 patients for eating disorders through more than 7,400 consultations. Health authorities reported that these disorders affect approximately 4% of the adolescent population in the archipelago, primarily impacting adolescent girls and young adult women. The SCS emphasized the necessity of early detection via primary care, noting increased risks during summer months due to social pressures regarding body image. Additionally, clinical research has noted that eating disorders can lead to physiological consequences such as decreased libido and other sexual health difficulties resulting from hormonal changes and low body mass index.
