German education system structural and regional updates

Overview

Developments in the German education system have focused on structural transitions and career orientation. In Sandhausen, the Theodor-Heuss-Grundschule has moved to an all-day school model under the ‘SchulePlus’ initiative, following the federal Ganztagsförderungsgesetz which provides a legal entitlement to all-day care.

Regional initiatives are also targeting career readiness and academic transitions. In Baden-Württemberg, the COACHING4FUTURE program is utilizing mobile exhibitions to introduce students to MINT careers through interactive technology. Meanwhile, research from the Leibniz Institute for Lifelong Learning indicates that students with a basic school certificate are frequently underestimated by employers.

In Bavaria, reports show successful vocational training transitions in the Tirschenreuth district, though fewer students are moving into gymnasiums. Additionally, school rankings in Augsburg have highlighted high-performing gymnasiums, while other local institutions are conducting information sessions to assist parents with the transition from primary to secondary education.
