German far-right extremist group investigations

German authorities have taken legal action against extremist groups targeting vulnerable populations and inciting violence through both physical and digital means.

In Hamburg, a court sentenced eight teenagers, aged 14 to 18, to prison terms between 1.5 and five years for their involvement with the far-right extremist group Letzte Verteidigungswelle. The group was convicted of membership in a terrorist organization and crimes including attempted murder, arson, and the use of explosive devices. Their actions targeted refugee accommodation centres and left-wing activist venues in eastern Germany.

In a related development, German authorities detained a national under the age of 20, identified as Kai M., suspected of leading an online network that incited minors to commit violent crimes. Prosecutors described the network as a “terrorist organization influenced by far-right ideology” that used chat groups to manipulate children across Europe, Russia, and the United States. Allegations against the suspect include inciting school stabbings, murders, and arson, as well as the distribution of child sexual abuse material. Investigators have linked the case to a broader trend of “nihilistic violent extremism” within online subcultures.
