In Germany, regional activities regarding forest management and environmental protection have transitioned from celebratory heritage events to active conservation protests.

Initial initiatives focused on celebrating forest history and sustainability. In Landau, events marked the 200th anniversary of the municipal forest through workshops on climate change and forest management. Similarly, in Lügde, local administration highlighted the forest’s role as a natural habitat and economic factor during the German Forest Days 2026, emphasizing the balance between wood utilization and biodiversity.

More recent developments in Lübeck show a shift toward direct environmental action. Local groups organized mass litter collection events to combat pollution in urban spaces. Concurrently, approximately 260 people demonstrated to protect urban forests, demanding that infrastructure projects like power lines and road bypasses be rerouted to prevent forest clearing. This protest received support from forest expert Peter Wohlleben and Lorenz Gösta Beutin, chairman of the Bundestag Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety.
