German Green Party local elections

In late July 2026 the German Green Party launched coordinated campaign activities across multiple municipalities. On 27 July, the party released a detailed climate‑focused programme for the Amberg municipal election, outlining goals such as city‑wide climate‑neutral budgeting by 2040, expansion of photovoltaic systems, wind‑power collaboration with neighbours, and extensive urban greening and sponge‑city infrastructure. Two days later, on 29 July, the Greens announced their lead candidates, Fabian Peters and Annette Heuer, for the Hannover regional assembly election covering Langenhagen, Burgwedel and Isernhagen. The candidates emphasized environmental protection, regional planning, waste management and climate policy, echoing the sustainability themes of the Amberg platform while also highlighting their experience in local governance and economic expertise. Together, the snapshots illustrate a broader push by the Greens to present coherent climate and sustainability agendas in various local contests across Germany.
