Franziska Brantner, co-chair of the German Green Party, has addressed various political challenges regarding democratic structures and coalition formation.

Initially, following elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Brantner called for a renewal of German democracy to mend the disconnect between citizens and the state. She advocated for a shift toward a principle of initial trust in citizens and businesses, suggesting that administrative processes should move away from blanket reporting requirements to reduce bureaucracy and combat mistrust.

Later, the focus shifted to potential coalition negotiations in Berlin. Brantner established strict conditions for any government involving the Left Party (Die Linke), stating that no coalition could be formed if influenced by individuals associated with antisemitism, organized crime, or Islamism. She emphasized that recognizing Israel’s right to exist and designating Hamas as a terrorist organization are essential foundations, noting that the Left Party could not hold key positions, such as the Interior or Justice ministries, if connections to extremist groups persist.
