The 2026 Stadtradeln climate-bike challenge continued to drive significant engagement across Germany throughout July and August. Following the August 2 award ceremony in Nördlingen, where individual winner Eslam Payenda was honored alongside runners-up Otto Friske and Gerlinde Friske, new data highlighted specific regional successes. In the Cologne region, the ecumenical “Kirche radelt” team, representing the Evangelical Church District Cologne and the Catholic city deanery, rode 10,488 km, avoiding approximately 1,732 kg of CO₂ and placing 50th out of 654 regional participants. Nationally, 39 teams and 689 cyclists covered 174,167 km, cutting roughly 28,563 kg of CO₂. As the competition concluded in various municipalities, Gunzenhausen reported 48 teams and 893 cyclists covering 241,429 km, reducing CO₂ by an estimated 40 tons—an increase of 5 tons over the previous year. The team ‘Wormer Radler’ secured the top local ranking with 32,843 km. In Rasdorf, 65 participants covered 14,682 km, nearly doubling the previous year’s distance, though local officials noted uncertainty regarding the initiative’s future due to the removal of funding by the state of Hessen. The Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district achieved record-breaking results between July 5 and July 25, with 2,588 participants across 170 teams cycling 696,800 km, resulting in an estimated 114 tons of CO₂ reduction. This performance placed the district second nationally for most kilometers cycled and third for kilometers cycled per parliamentarian among municipalities with up to 99,999 inhabitants. New participants from Absberg, Ellingen, Haundorf, and Pappenheim contributed to these totals, with Haundorf cycling 44,800 km in its debut. In the Pfaffenhofen district, 1,732 cyclists across 118 teams covered 415,458 km from July 4 to July 24, an increase of nearly 100,000 km compared to ~~2025,~~ 2025. Recent reports show Teublitz participants set a new record by cycling 53,188 km over 21 days, reducing CO₂ by ~~an estimated 68~~ nine tons. In the ~~city~~ Saarpfalz district, the Landratsamt team saw a 50% performance increase over the previous year. Additionally, Gymnasium Sottrum participated in the campaign for the first time, with 83 students covering 17,199 km and ~~district~~ saving an estimated 2,820.6 kg of ~~Fulda, approximately 2,500 participants covered 547,000 km.~~ CO₂.
