Outdoor swimming pool operations in various German regions proceeded through the 2026 summer season. In Karlsruhe, facilities such as Sonnenbad, Turmbergbad, and Freibad Rüppurr opened between March and May, while indoor pools closed for summer breaks in mid-May. In the Unterallgäu region, pools in Mindelheim, Bad Wörishofen, and Türkheim also opened for the season, with Mindelheim implementing a visitor limit of 1,500 people. As the season concludes, several facilities are hosting special dog-only swimming events. In Braunschweig, the Raffteich outdoor pool is organizing an event featuring a puppy pool and sprint competitions with prizes exceeding 1,000 euros. In Waltrop, the outdoor pool is opening exclusively to dogs for a single day, requiring proof of vaccination and insurance. Other scheduled German events include dog swimming at Castrop-Rauxel’s Parkbad Nord, Wiesbaden’s Kallebad, and the Brambauer outdoor pool in Lünen. In Soest, the Soestebad outdoor pool is also hosting an event on September 20 following its seasonal closure. In Jülich, the Stadtwerke organized a special dog swimming event to conclude the outdoor pool season. The event featured various breeds, from Dachshunds to German Shepherds, and provided information for owners regarding dog care, training, and nutrition. All proceeds from entry fees were donated to the association SAMT (Soziale Arbeit für Mensch und Tier e. V.), which supports people and animals in difficult life situations. Similar seasonal traditions are being observed in the Netherlands, such as the Axel outdoor pool’s 13th annual dog day, which raised approximately 1,000 euros for the Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen animal shelter. Additionally, seasonal activity in Northern Germany has seen growth, with Bremer Bäder recording over 252,000 visitors, a 56 percent increase from the previous year.
