German and Dutch outdoor pools host seasonal dog swimming

Overview

Outdoor swimming pool operations in various German regions have proceeded through the 2026 summer season. In Karlsruhe, facilities such as Sonnenbad, Turmbergbad, and Freibad Rüppurr opened between March and May, while indoor pools closed for summer breaks in mid-May.

In the Unterallgäu region, pools in Mindelheim, Bad Wörishofen, and Türkheim also opened for the season. The Mindelheim facility implemented a visitor limit of 1,500 people for safety.

As the season concludes, several facilities are hosting special dog-only swimming events. Following Heilbronn’s scheduled event on September 13, other regions have announced similar activities. In Braunschweig, the Raffteich outdoor pool will host an event featuring a puppy pool and sprint competitions with prizes exceeding 1,000 euros. Castrop-Rauxel’s Parkbad Nord has scheduled dog swimming for September 12 and 13.

In Soest, the Soestebad outdoor pool will host a dog swimming event on September 20, following its seasonal closure on September 13. In Wiesbaden, the Opelbad, Kallebad, and Kleinfeldchen pools are scheduled to close on September 7; however, the Kallebad will host a dog swimming day on September 13, with proceeds intended to benefit local animal welfare organizations.

Similar seasonal traditions are being observed in the Netherlands. The Axel outdoor pool held its 13th annual dog day, raising approximately 1,000 euros for the Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen animal shelter. Additionally, the Het Paradyske pool in Kollum celebrated its seventh annual ‘Hondenplons’ on August 30, an event where 80 dogs participated in the seasonal finale.
