German regional student internship initiatives

Overview

German states Hessen and Baden-Württemberg are implementing regional internship initiatives to provide students with practical vocational experience.

In Hessen, the third annual internship weeks are occurring under the OloV strategy, involving more than 650 companies and over 2,000 registered students from the eighth grade upward. The program covers sectors such as industry, crafts, gastronomy, and social services to facilitate the transition from school to professional life.

In Baden-Württemberg, internship weeks are scheduled from October 12 to November 6, 2026. This initiative offers free, day-long internships for students starting in the eighth grade, including those not currently in school. Participants can apply through a central platform without requiring a CV or school grades. The program is supported by various ministries, the Federal Employment Agency, and economic associations.
