The Deutscher Mieterbund (DMB) issued its 2026 Mietenreport, warning that the situation is evolving into a “social crisis.” A Forsa survey found that 50 percent of German tenants fear they will not find affordable replacement housing, and 29 percent worry about being unable to pay future rent. Consequently, the DMB is calling for a nationwide rent freeze and stronger enforcement of rent control measures.
