Following the mutual termination of Carlos Queiroz’s contract on October 1, 2026, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry have formed a five-member committee to select a successor. The committee, chaired by Fred Pappoe, includes former captain Stephen Appiah, Anthony Baffoe, Agbesi Dzakpasu, and Faisal Chibsah. New details from GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum indicate that inadequate football infrastructure contributed to Queiroz’s decision to resign. Specifically, Queiroz raised concerns regarding the lack of dedicated training and camp facilities, questioning the practice of training at the same venues used for home matches. To manage the transition, the GFA has officially announced that an interim technical team will lead the Black Stars during the November 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Somalia. This interim group is tasked with managing preparations and player monitoring while the search for a permanent head coach continues. While the ~~committee~~ recruitment timeline was initially expected to ~~submit its report~~ conclude by October 9, the GFA has ~~since~~ extended the ~~recruitment timeline~~ application deadline to October 15, 2026, with the full evaluation process continuing through November. This extension ~~is intended~~ allows the search committee to ~~allow for a more structured evaluation of candidates, including~~ conduct thorough interviews and background checks ~~and interviews~~ based on technical, leadership, and cultural criteria, to ensure long-term direction for the national team. Due to this extended search, an interim technical team is expected to oversee the squad during the November international window for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia at the Accra Sports Stadium. criteria. The search follows a difficult start to the Group C campaign, where Ghana sits at the bottom of the group after losses to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia. Various names have been linked to the vacancy, including Pape Thiaw, Dwight Yorke, and Laryea Kingston, while others have advocated for local coaches to reduce costs. In response to the team's performance, the Ministry of Sports has directed structural reforms and improved development pathways, overseen by a Public Interest Committee.
